DeFake @ ImagineRIT

We ran our exhibit on ImagineRIT on April 25th, 2026 at ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute in the Exhibit Hall.

The experience of the DeFake Define project was deployed to test the visitors’ mettle against various deepfakes as well as asking them what they mean when they say “deepfake”. The latter is a part of a user study we’re running to understand the various ways people comprehend the terminology given its evolution over the years as the AI has undergone rapid changes. We have the participants define the term, clarify their stance and after the game, reflect on their definition.

🎖️The exhibit has won 2026 Fram Award at Imagine RIT!

With three active stations, the event brought in a fairly large crowd, one we may have not expected, but definitely welcomed as it allowed the visitors a glimpse into the capabilities of these generative technologies and hopefully learn some lessons at staying more vigilant.
